Man Attempts To Kidnap Woman Out Of Target Store Personal Safety Seminars Sat, 14 Jul 2018 15:43:17 +0000 en-US hourly 1 Man Attempts To Kidnap Woman Out Of Target Store Sat, 14 Jul 2018 15:21:23 +0000 In a suburban target store near Seattle, WA a man entered a Target store and approached a woman and ordered her to exit the store with him. He stated he had a gun, and when he threatened to shoot her, she said, “Go ahead.” He then grabbed her arm forcefully and she broke his grip and created distance alerting others to her problem.

I teach women, young and old, to believe something can and will happen. It is when we do the unexpected quickly that increases our chances of safety and survival.

In the Safe Girls Seminar we focus attention on believing anything can happen and equipping women to not only be alert, but to know how to respond when it does.

Everybody has an Arc of Survival, this is a decision process that occurs based upon training. It begins with Denial, goes to Deliberation, and ends in Decisive action – this is a process that takes time, especially when one doesn’t expect a problem. The goal of the training is to shrink the Arc of Survival and respond quickly by using your voice, coupled with physical skills if necessary.

In this situation, the victim kept her head. The reporter revealed she has a CCW license and was armed. I believe this helped her. Any prior training will come to your aid. The only thing I would have improved was to become louder faster and deliver precision strikes to his eyes, nose and throat.

Although security was alerted, they did not attempt to stop the man. He was able to escape the store, go into another store nearby and attempt to assault an employee in the bathroom. She too resisted, which led to his capture.

Fake Uber Driver Assaults Two College Girls Wed, 25 Apr 2018 16:16:52 +0000 Two girls were tricked into getting into an Uber driver’s car this past weekend near the University of Georgia.  This isn’t the first story I’ve read about this, and you can bet predators are paying attention.  Predators need two things to be successful:  Privacy and Control.  Give him the thought he might get neither, he will often cut his losses.

In this video, I give a break down of the incident and a few tips to help you teach the girls in your life how to avoid this growing problem.

Man Drives Car Into Lake At Tennessee Church Now Missing Mon, 29 May 2017 14:38:05 +0000 Police are investigating a strange early incident at Bellevue Baptist Church in Cordova where one man died.

According to MPD spokesman Louis Brownlee, officers at the Appling Farms Station responded at about 4 a.m. to the church at 2000 Appling Road.

The PIO reports responding officers were told a man in a dark-colored vehicle had been speeding on church property just before driving into a pond.

The officers were told that as security personnel approached the vehicle, the occupant turned off the lights. The security officer who made the complaint said he then lost sight of the vehicle and as he got closer to the spot where it was last seen, he noticed it was in the middle of the pond.

Officers were told the man was seen sitting on the hood of the car with a phone in his hand, but the security worker again lost sight as he was calling police. When the security worker turned back around, Brownlee said, the man on the car was gone.

Additional officers were called to conduct a search, along with fire personnel who used a boat to locate a body near the last known spot of the vehicle.

At the time of this report, the police do not have the identity of the man.

Church Member Shoots Church Greeter Mon, 29 May 2017 13:29:54 +0000 Last week I reported a shooting in a Kansas City church involving a church greeter receiving a head wound when a man entered the church and shot him.

This week authorities made an arrest of the suspect, an apparent church member who lived in the neighborhood and was cited as a Good Samaritan in a recent car crash.

Like most things, once the police begin to investigate, the true story begins to emerge.

Last Sunday, police say one church member, Orlando Gentry, shot church greeter, Montell Bruce. Gentry is now charged with first degree assault, armed criminal action, and possession of a weapon.

The bullet grazed Bruce’s head. He suffered minor injuries.

Fields, the church pastor, discussed Gentry. “We still love him; we are praying that he gets his help and everything that he needs.”

Woman Taped To Light Post On College Campus Sat, 27 May 2017 11:38:45 +0000 A strange story out of Oregon.  The Daily Emerald Reports:

“A 19-year-old woman was assaulted Thursday night; she was taped to a light post, according to a University of Oregon Campus Crime Alert.

The woman, currently unnamed, was walking from an 11th Avenue address to a friend’s residence in Barnhart Hall when a strange man approached her, offering to escort her. The woman did not know the man according to Kelly McIver, public information officer for UOPD.

When they reached the residence hall, the man grabbed her arm, forced her to the ground and taped her arm to a light post.

According to the crime alert, two Barnhart residence assistants freed the woman and called the police.

The man was identified to be around 20 years of age, white, brown haired and dressed in all black. The woman was unaffiliated with UO.

According to McIver, the woman claimed that the incident was odd, but mostly non-threatening.  Nonetheless, the UOPD wants to stress that any situation where an individual touches the body of another person without proper consent will not be tolerated, and is a serious matter.

The investigation of the incident is ongoing, and the UOPD is accepting any information about the assault, or any similar occurrences.”
